“For 50 consecutive hours, more than 40 two-person teams fished the shores of the Seneca River during last week’s fourth annual CARP Tournament Series NE Regional. Both men and women, representing the USA, Poland, England and Canada, vied for more than $10,000 in cash and prizes. The tournament kicked-off Wednesday with a reception at the Red Mill Inn followed by a parade onto Paper Mill Island. The evening’s final event was the all-important peg draw in which competitors selected their fishing locations. “

“Baldwinsville (WSYR-TV) – Dozens of the world’s best carp anglers have lined the Seneca River in Baldwinsville with plans to do some non stop fishing for 50 hours. The Annual Carp Angling Tournament kicked off last night with its opening ceremonies. Carp fisherman from around the world, including England, Poland, and Canada are competing to win $10,000 in prizes. The 41 teams will fish until Saturday morning. They will likely catch and release nearly 50 tons of carp.”

The best source of insight into the river is Dr. William Beauchamp, namesake of our local history club. He wrote “Past and Present of Syracuse and Onondaga County, NY, from Prehistoric Times to the Beginning of 1908.” It devotes an entire chapter to the county’s zoology, including “Fish and Fishing.””

“BALDWINSVILLE – Over forty teams of professional carp anglers arrived in Baldwinsville Wednesday to compete in the CARP Tournament Series Northeast Regionals on the Seneca River. For the fourth year, these two-person teams from the far reaches of the United States and five countries will face what is now known as one of the toughest pro-level carp angling competitions in the world.

Tournament officials predict a fierce competition as this year’s contest has lured former champions and monied winners from the three previous Northeast Regionals back to Baldwinsville this year. However, not going unnoticed is the presence of two St. Lawrence junior grand champions – Jared Smythe and Ian Hawkins. These two first-timers in Baldwinsville leave the big river up north to take on the challenge of the Seneca River this year.”
