If you see people fishing on the Connecticut River this week at midnight or 3 a.m., this may explain it: There is a professional carp fishing tournament from 9 a.m. today through 9 a.m. Saturday, 72 hours straight, day and night.

“The Connecticut River carp are large and healthy,” said Kathleen Kelly-Ori, who heads up publicity for the CARP Tournament Series. “This is the only U.S. tournament where we fish on tidal-affected waters. That is a challenge to the anglers who do not fish that type of water.”"

Team USA in the World Carp Classic 2009, Lac de Madine, France

WCC-Logo-2009_smallTwo U.S. teams will compete in the 2009 World Carp Classic this August against 128 other international teams. David Moore of Bartlesville, OK, as team captain, and Louis Cook of Philadelphia, PA comprise one of the two teams from the United States. Louis is the President of the Carp Anglers Group and David is the director for the CARP Tournament Series and a founding director of the American Carp Society.

North Carolinians, Colin Peters and Tom Brooks are on the second U.S. team. Brooks and Peters qualified for the WCC by winning CARPTS South Central Regionals at Lake Hominy, Oklahoma in April.

Bartlesville OK – North Carolina carp anglers Colin Peters and Tom Brooks earned a spot in the prestigious World Carp Classic after clinching first place honors at the CARPT Tournament Series South Central Regionals at Lake Hominy, Oklahoma on April 18th. The win for the two-man team guaranteed the duo entry to the contest at Lac de Madine in France this August.  The Hominy competition was the first-ever USA qualifier for the famed European tournament.

North Carolina carp anglers Colin Peters and Tom Brooks earned a spot in the prestigious World Carp Classic

Peters and Brooks faced seemingly unconquerable conditions during the grueling 118-hour tournament at Lake Hominy. Hominy is known among carp anglers as one of the toughest venues in the United States, but the team managed to take top honors landing a total of 85 lbs. 15 oz. of carp, including a large common carp tipping the scales at 26 lbs. 7 oz. while not succumbing to unusual spring weather patterns.
