The world is coming to the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino when northern New York’s well known gaming enterprise hosts the prestigious Carp Angling World Championship’s awards ceremony on Sept. 30. Several hundred of the world’s most talented carp anglers will cap-off their five-day endurance contest with a celebration at the casino honoring the winners of the competition.

The two anglers are one of several United States teams which will fish for five days on the St. Lawrence River the Carp Angling World Championships which will begin next Sunday at 3 p.m. under the direction of CARPTS (Catch and Release Professional Tournament Series).

Organizers for this year’s Carp Angling World Championship have spent the past week on the St. Lawrence River reviewing fishing locations between Ogdensburg and Massena as final preparations are made for the September competition.
Tournament Director David Moore has been re-evaluating fishing locations that will be used for the competition.
Close to 100 carp anglers from around the world are expected to hit the St. Lawrence River September 23 through 30 for the 115-hour competition.
The tournament is sanctioned by the Oklahoma-based CARP Tournament Series, which sponsored a similar competition in 2005.

AKWESASNE – It may not be the Olympics, but contestants from France, England, Russia, South Africa and several other countries will be competing in St. Lawrence County this fall.
The Carp Angling World Championship will be held the last week in September along the St. Lawrence River shoreline from Massena to Ogdensburg.
The world championship tournament has not been held in the north country since 2005.
Event organizer David R. Moore said the championships have been held in France, Romania and several states in this country.

Mr. David Moore is running this year’s Carp Angling World Championship on the St. Lawrence River. Anglers from around the world will be competing.
“Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. — Oops. My last column referenced how little that bass and carp had in common, especially not looks. The largemouth bass was described as a grandiose creature, silver with dark green markings while carp are brownish olive and ugly as a cow patty after a rainstorm.
I went on to say they had cultural followings; that carp were revered and pursued in Asian countries largely for consumption while most anglers in North America pursued bass for their sportfish qualities.
Moreover, I stated that while carp fishing will never compete professionally with bass, the American Carp Society does hold a world championship annually with first-place purses that often exceed $50,000 plus pickups and/or boats. Not bad for an ugly algae slurping fish.”
